6 Days Tanzania Safari to Tarangire, Olduvai Gorge, Serengeti and Ngorongoro
Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast in your hotel, you’ll depart towards Tarangire National Park, and with an approximate 2 hour drive you will arrive at your destination. Tarangire is considered to be one of the best places in Africa where you can have a close encounter with the elephants. Not only because there are thousands of these giant animals present, but also because they are used to the presence of the vehicles. From the open roof safari car you will be able to absorb the landscape and watch the animals. The park is also a home of buffaloes, zebras and wildebeests, closely followed by a range of predators such as lions and less frequently leopards and cheetahs. Tarangire is also famous for its tree climbing pythons and huge baobab trees. In the late afternoon you will leave the park and drive to your accommodation in Karatu, for a delicious dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Tarangire to Lake Manyara
After breakfast, we will drive you to Lake Manyara National Park, one of the smaller wildlife protected areas of Tanzania. Lake Manyara is a shallow alkaline lake created by a depression within the Great Rift Valley. It provides the perfect introduction to Tanzania’s bird life, with more than 400 recorded species and it is renowned for the abundance of flamingos. If you are lucky, you will have an opportunity to see the tree climbing lions. After the late afternoon game drive, you will be escorted back to your accommodation.
Day 3: Lake Manyara – Olduvai Gorge – Serengeti National Park
Olduvai Gorge is located halfway between Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti. This deep ravine with iconic weathered monolith is where Louis and Mary Leakey excavated evidence of the evolution of mankind from 2 million years ago through varied distinct layers of different sediments. The remains of stone circles may indicate primitive houses remains and the casts of the footprint trail of early hominids who first stood upright over 3.7 million years ago can be found in small museum that you can visit. Later in the afternoon your journey towards Serengeti continues until you reach your accommodation.
Day 4: Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, you will start your morning game drive in Serengeti National Park, which is considered to be the ultimate safari destination in Africa. Serengeti is the World Heritage Site teeming with wildlife. With over 2 million ungulates (zebras, giraffes, elephants, buffalos, rhinos, etc.), around 4000 lions, 1000 leopards, 550 cheetahs and about 500 bird species inhabiting an area close to 15,000 square kilometres in size. It is also the home of the Great Wildebeest migration that starts in Maasai Mara and ends in Southern Serengeti, when millions of grazers start their annual pursuit for the green pastures. For the most part of the year, the main attraction of the park is its central area, between Grumeti on the West and Ndutu on the East. You simply can not go wrong with choosing Serengeti as a destination for your Tanzania safari. After the picnic lunch and the afternoon game drive, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
Early morning, after breakfast, you will check out and venture to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The massive collapsed volcano crater is a home of over 25,000 mammals ranging from the “Big Five” – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard to spotted hyenas, rare wild dogs and more than 500 bird species. You can hardly find wildlife protected area as dense and varied with life as Ngorongoro crater. After picnic lunch, you will descend into the crater floor for a game drive. Later in the afternoon you will be taken to your accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Ngorongoro to Arusha
Early in the morning, you will have another game drive within the crater. Afterwards, we start the drive to Arusha, where our adventure ends. We can take you to your hotel where you will spend the night or drive you to the airport for your flight home. In case you have more time to spare, we can organize some other activities for you, maybe few days of Zanzibar beach leisure.
