Get a taste of rural life and meet a local Witch doctor. On this tour, you’ll gain an understanding of local life and culture in rural Zanzibar. You’ll get to meet an eclectic mix of people, each practicing different cultural traditions in Jambiani village. This area is one of the main areas for seaweed farming in Zanzibar. You can always find local women at the beach during low tide, gathering seaweed. Today, there is also a soap factory that uses seaweed as its main ingredient. On this tour, you’ll visit a seaweed farm and learn about the harvest. You’ll also learn about other aspects of rural life here, by visiting a female pottery and handicrafts group, as well as a local school. Among other things, you’ll learn the process of making rope from coconut fiber. Lastly, this tour includes a visit to a local witch doctor. This shaman is said to be able to protect you from bad spirits and make all your sufferings go away, using traditional rituals and herbs. We’ll stop for lunch at a local restaurant where you’ll get to try authentic Zanzibari cuisine, seasoned with delicious spices and herbs.
